Is it Fear or Intuition? How to Hear the Voice of Your Soul
When making a big decision like, Do I move? Do I stay with my partner? Do I accept this job?
Sometimes we feel a quiet inner nudge that doesn’t make logical sense. And we are left to wonder:
“Is this guidance I’m receiving fear… or is it intuition?”
It can feel confusing at first. Both fear and intuition show up inside your body. Both can feel strong. And when you’re at a crossroads, learning to tell the difference is one of the most important skills you can build—especially on the priestess path, but also simply as a woman learning to trust herself.
The good news? Your body already knows. We just need to learn its language.
What Intuition Actually Feels Like
Intuition is usually calm.
It doesn’t shout, pressure, or rush you.
More than anything, intuition creates a feeling of clarity or ease—even if what it’s pointing you toward is unknown or uncomfortable. Sometimes intuition is so subtle that you almost miss it. It may come as:
a gentle “yes”
a settling in your chest or belly
a soft inner knowing
a neutral clarity without drama
Ask yourself:
“What does this feel like in my body?”
Did something relax?
Did you feel more open?
Did it feel peaceful—even if it didn’t feel “easy”?
This is how our soul speaks.
And What About Fear?
Fear tends to be louder and more dramatic.
It sounds like:
“Don’t do that!”
“What if this goes horribly wrong?”
“You’re being irresponsible.”
“You’ll regret it.”
Fear likes urgency. It pushes you into worst-case scenarios. It tries to keep you safe by keeping everything familiar.
Fear isn’t wrong or bad—it’s just protective. But when you’re trying to grow, fear can sound very convincing while actually holding you back.
A helpful question:
“Is this voice protecting me… or preventing me?”
That’s the heart of discernment.
Why This Matters: The Body Never Lies
Your body gives you instant feedback.
Fear creates tightness, tension, racing thoughts, shallow breath.
Intuition brings steadiness, openness, and a sense of inner spaciousness.
When I look back at my own life, I can see this clearly. One of the biggest decisions I ever made was buying a one-way ticket to India to visit an ashram in Kerala. To some people, it didn’t make sense. I didn’t have a plan—I just felt called.
Inside my body I felt clear, alive, spacious, and guided. When I reflect back on that decision, it led me to some of the happiest, most meaningful experiences of my life.
That’s intuition: not loud, not dramatic, but deeply grounded.
The Subtle Ways Intuition Speaks
Intuition doesn’t always talk in complete sentences. Sometimes it speaks through:
dreams
symbols
synchronicities
small nudges
that “something feels off” sensation
Before I moved into a beautiful, remodeled ADU, I had a dream that I was sleeping in a garage. I brushed it off. Months later, I found myself in the beautiful space… that was freezing. No insulation. I realized my dream was offering insight into what the experience would be like. It didn’t tell me what to do, it just offered me some insight into what it would be like. Now I am better at catching those signs.
That’s the thing about intuition—it’s often simple and symbolic. And even if we miss the signs, life has a way of circling back and giving us another chance. The universe isn’t punitive. If we feel like we made the “wrong” choice, we can just see it as research. And our intuition will continue to offer guidance and redirect us, again and again.
Listening Can Be a Simple Ritual
You don’t need a big ceremony to hear your soul. A few slow breaths and a hand on your heart or womb is enough.
Try asking:
“Show me what I need to know right now.”
Then stay curious.
Notice the feelings.
Notice the subtle clues.
Notice how your body responds when the answer arrives.
If fear pops up afterward (which it often does), it doesn’t mean you got the message wrong—it just means you’re stretching beyond your comfort zone.
So How Do You Know?
There’s no perfect formula—but here are truths you can rely on:
Intuition is grounded and steady.
Fear is urgent and loud.
Intuition opens you.
Fear tightens you.
Intuition guides you toward expansion.
Fear keeps you in the familiar.
And above all:
Your soul will never get tired of guiding you.
Even if you take a detour, miss a sign, or choose the comfortable route first, you will be guided again. That’s part of the path.
Next time you hear an inner voice and you’re not sure what it is, pause and ask:
“Is this fear trying to protect me… or intuition leading me forward?”
The more you ask, the easier it gets.
Your soul is always speaking.
Your only job is to listen for the difference.
