Healing from a Cesarean Section (and How to Prepare for a VBAC)

I work with women 1:1 to heal their birth experiences, especially those still carrying trauma from unexpected or unwanted interventions. My work helps women feel more at peace with themselves, their body, and their birth—and is especially potent for women preparing to birth again.

One of my clients, Andrea, came to me in preparation to birth after her first birth ended in a cesarean section. Her labor was induced (earlier than she thought baby was really ready for), and unfortunately this led to a cascade of interventions.

In our womb healing sessions, we created a sacred space where she could share her story, name the moments that shattered her trust, and release the beliefs she was still holding about her body.

Together, we worked with EFT Tapping, a somatic practice that allows us to gently unravel trauma from the body and psyche. We honored the moments when she felt alone, unsupported, or powerless. Then, we re-imprinted her energetic body with a new vision—one where she birthed in power, in trust, and in deep connection with her son.

As her second pregnancy progressed, she set her intention for a VBAC—a vaginal birth after cesarean. Together, we anchored into trust. She explored care providers, hospital choices, and doula support. I held space for her to listen deeply to her inner guide and voice of her womb.

She came to peace with all possible outcomes… and we imprinted a birth memory from her future self - a timeline where she had an empowered vaginal birth after cesarean.

“Hi Meredith, I’m thrilled to introduce our son. He arrived on a rainy evening after a full moon. Contractions started at 1 am. We labored at home until 8 cm and then drove to the hospital. I pushed for about an hour to guide my baby into the world. He has a calm temperament and we’re so in love. Thank you for supporting me in envisioning and preparing for this entirely redemptive and healing birth.”

She did it!

I knew all the inner work she did around healing her previous birth experience, letting go of expectations, finding peace in all outcomes, and coming into deep trust with her body allowed this moment to unfold so beautifully.

Rest as much as possible. Ask for help and say yes to support.
Gentle walking (when you feel ready) encourages circulation and supports digestion.
Stay hydrated and nourished with warm, nutrient-rich meals.

⏳ How long does recovery take?

Most women need 6–8 weeks for physical recovery, but emotional healing may take longer. Every woman’s timeline is unique—be gentle with yourself.

🌸 What are the best self-care tips?

• Use a pillow to support your incision when laughing or coughing.
• Nap when the baby naps—try to let go of doing.
• Use herbal sitz baths or warm compresses to soothe the pelvic region.

💫 How do I manage pain effectively?

• Use prescribed or over the counter pain medications if needed—no shame in support.
• Practice box breathing: inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4.
• Place hands over your womb daily and breathe healing energy into it.

🥣 Which foods support healing?

• Bone broth, leafy greens, dates, and warm stews nourish deeply.
• Iron-rich foods replenish blood lost during surgery.
• Collagen and vitamin C support tissue repair.

🌿 How can I reduce c-section scarring?

Apply castor oil (with or without a warm compress) to the scar. This promotes circulation and breaks up adhesions over time.
